A French press, also called a coffee press, press pot, coffee plunger or cafetière, is a simple filterless coffee brewing device, most likely invented in France roundabout 1850. French press coffee makers create a smooth, pure coffee flavor using a simple but effective process. French press coffee makers are not automated coffee makers, but a manual process is involved. However, the process is very simple and quick and many people believe that the coffee from a French press tastes much better that an automated drip-type coffee machine. Furthermore, French press coffee makers are much cheaper than automated coffee makers.
